West Lothian Council has been voted the Top Council in the UK at the recent Local Government Chronicle Awards.  It came out first among a strong field drawn from across the country.   Not only is it the first Council in Scotland to win this prestigious prize but is the only one ever to have been selected to participate.

By winning this highly sought-after title the Council has demonstrated a level of excellence that takes its work well beyond basic service provision. West Lothian Council fought-off competition from five other nominees: Telford and Wrekin Council, Canterbury City Council, Gateshead Council, Shropshire County Council and St Helens Council.

Dave McDougall of MBAssociates and President of West Lothian Chamber of Commerce extends his congratulations to West Lothian Council.  'The Council and the Chamber in West Lothian work closely together to provide quality services for its citizens and businesses.  This award recognises these efforts'.

West Lothian Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business Excellence Awards at its celebration dinner on Friday 25 November 2005.  The event was hosted by Dave McDougall of MBAssociates who is WL Chamber President and Chief Executive.

Over 200 guests attended the prestigious event, which is recognised as West Lothian's premier business accolades for organistions and employees that have achieved outstanding performance in the last year.

The winners are:

• Bausch & Lomb in Livingston who claimed the Best Business Award 2005.
• Timber Frameworks who won the High Growth Business Award.
• Petra Designs of Livingston who claimed the Entreprenur and Business Start-Up Award.
• Bobby Wilson of Oatridge College who won the Employee Initiative Award.
• United Central Bakeries who clinched the Great Place to Work Award.
• Finally, Blackburn Primary which won the Enterprising School Award.
